About

Niko Nitai Theater

Niko Nitai Theater is a pioneering fringe theater for creators, actors, and curious audiences. The theater began as a dream of a rebellious artist who refused to follow the conventional path. He created, out of nothing, what became a cornerstone of non-establishment theater in Israel. In a short time, the theater became a cultural home, where we foster a daring and adventurous artistic communication, offering new ideas and voices.

Niko Nitai believed that original artistic creation could change reality, impacting individuals, the community, and the culture in which it was born. He valued a close, barrier-free connection between the creation, the creators, and those who experience it. The theater he founded became a nurturing space for independent creation, a home for actors and creators without a home, and gained local and international recognition.

The theater is currently under the artistic direction of Dorit Nitai Neeman, who continues to develop and promote its artistic values and traditions. Under her leadership, the theater annually hosts a variety of cultural events, including high-quality productions by the theater ensemble, an original theater festival, the "Citizen Here Festival" focused on human and civil rights, literary and poetry events, and diverse exhibitions in the new gallery space. The theater remains committed to encouraging both young and seasoned creators while deepening the collaboration between the theater and the community, believing that culture can drive social change

As part of our vision, Niko Nitai Theater operates as a cultural-social nonprofit. We work in the socio-economic periphery of Israel, promoting various artistic activities in collaboration with the community. These include working with at-risk youth, empowerment workshops, and integrating people with special needs and mental health challenges. Our goal is to make the theater an empowering home for everyone.

We invite you to join us in our dream, our journey, and our mission. Your presence and support will help us continue to create, encourage, and nurture unique, high-quality works that expand the boundaries of Israeli cultural discourse.

"This is my protest – to dream."
